Homelessness Services in Exeter

Over recent years we have delivered (and continue to deliver) a wide range of placed based psychology clinics in a range of different settings including supportive housing and hostel accommodation. This has enabled us to offer psychological approaches to clients who would not otherwise be able to, or get the chance to, engage with services. As part of these projects we have used trauma informed approaches and philosophies and worked with staff towards creating ‘Psychologically Informed Environments’

Domestic Abuse Services

We have been involved with various local domestic abuse services and projects including the following:

In collaboration with Exeter City Council’s Strategic Housing and Homelessness team, we developed place based psychology clinics for women escaping domestic abuse within the city of Exeter. The project involved offering psychological therapy to clients as well as reflective practice and trauma informed training for staff. Modelled on previous place based projects within the homeless sector.

In collaboration with Devon County Council we have developed a package of trauma informed stabilisation training around domestic and sexual violence services. This is designed to be a comprehensive training for support staff who do not have a background in offering therapy. We hope to make the manual for this available as a free download on this site soon.

Reflective Practice

We offer reflective practice to staff in a wide range of organisations across the south west. Reflective practice is the cornerstone of any Psychologically Informed Environment’s project and is also an essential tool in staff wellbeing.

Trauma informed training packages

We have developed a training package aimed at helping staff to understand how clients’ experiences of trauma and adversity can form the basis for understanding and formulating the complex difficulties they face. We have delivered this package to hundreds of staff over the years and are improving and developing it as we go along.

As part of our Trauma Toolkit we have made this training package available for free online, click below:

Train Your Brain

Train Your Brain is a model to help understand and regulate emotions. This workbook is written to help clients and their workers better understand the brain and how it affects the way we think, feel and act. It aims to help you learn strategies to calm and reassure yourself when feeling low, anxious or overwhelmed, and ultimately to be more in control of your emotions.
